Btw I am not seeking to convert anybody to my 'beliefs' (which for the most part are not beliefs but things I know through personal experience). Some people will look at all this and think I'm either delusional to the point of insanity or else that I'm making it all up, i.e. telling lies. My dears, you are free to think whatever you like; I can't stop you. Once upon a time I would have minded, but old age is very liberating. I'm writing this blog mainly for me, of course. (Writers get compulsions to write particular things.) If it interests or helps you — bonus! If you find it ridiculous — well, laughter is good for you.
I am not speaking, here, for every witch, healer or psychic medium — just for myself.

My Favourite Witchy Books

These are the ones that came my way soon after I first realised – in my fifties! – Oh, I’m a witch. Of course I’m a witch! I’ve always been a witch.’ Then, of course, I wanted to explore it more – having already investigated both Druidry and ceremonial magic. (Ceremonial magic was fascinating, and Druidy full of sweetness and grace, but witchcraft was simply coming home.)

By now I’ve studied many books on the Craft, and on related matters. These I continue to love and value for their down-to-earth practicality. (Witchcraft is very earthy.)

This one’s not even about witchcraft, but Hawaiian shamanism. However it’s one of the most useful books on the practice and theory of magic that I’ve ever come across, perhaps THE most. It’s an absolutely great starting point. For many, it would suffice as their whole teaching. It's based on King's personal experience.

Laurie Cabot’s personal journey is also filled with practical wisdom, tried and tested, and is very specifically witchy in focus. I love it.

This next one is somewhat more academic, but also includes very practical teaching. Weinstein's ‘words of power’ instructions are among the most useful teachings I’ve ever found, and I use them a lot.

The late Scott Cunningham wrote many books on witchcraft, and in the their pages comes across as a lovely bloke. His practices contain some slight variations from traditional Wicca, but not serious differences. As he writes for the solitary practitioner, which many are, naturally his books are particularly useful from that point of view. This is the basic text for those starting out on their own, and gives you the details you need for the rituals we use.
